Good question. You may be hard pressed to find anything from academia.
I was lucky about mid-way through my career to work for a company that realized this, so they sent me to a series of training programs from the folks at Pragmatic Marketing. They actually have an article that discusses this topic in greater detail:
“Product Management is not a job for which people can go out and get a degree. You can get a degree in Computer Science that covers the knowledge you need in order to start out as a programmer. You can get a degree in Marketing that gives you the basic foundation to get started in Marketing or Advertising. But there is no college-level degree in Product Management, as far as I know.”
Pragmatic Marketing has become, I believe, the de facto leader in providing training in this space and Steve Johnson is an entertaining instructor who essentially helped change my career path.
More on this to come….
